Pobeda
Pobeda
If you want a dark red for the late peony season, you can hardly go wrong with Pobeda.
Pobeda’s blooms are a the deep magenta red that:
1) doesn’t fade and
2) Leans a little less toward pink than some other lactiflora reds
Unlike some late flowering peonies, Pobeda’s bloom quality does not seem to be affected by the hot spells that sometimes happen in the late season. Very reliable.
The plant flowers quite heavily and the blooms themselves are large and prone to flopping. Support is recommended.
A 2023 note on Pobeda: In the 2023, we had a late May hard frost (around 23 - 25 F). Many of our plants completely lost their buds or flowered but with lots of damage to the blooms. Pobeda, however, was entirely unaffected. This is particularly notable as other cultivars planted nearby did sustain considerable damage. Based on this seeming climate resilience, we’re going to trial Pobeda in our cut flower fields.
Please note “Pobeda” is not a registered variety. Based on Pobeda’s description, appearance and timing, our plant appears to be correct. We do everything we can to ensure the culitvars we sell are true to name. But please be aware that, with older, unregistered cultivar, there’s always a chance that the plant is not true to name.
