A. E. Kundred
A. E. Kundred
A.E. Kundred was introduced in 1951 but over time became difficult to find. We were able to purchase the cultivar thanks to Ruud Warmerdam’s efforts to restore this cultivar to commercial trade.
So many superlatives about this cultivar. Large, creamy flowers that almost seem to have an internal golden glow. Some petals with a red picotee edge. The bloom is very densely petaled - so much so that the APS registry description indicates the blooms feel like a cushion. (While I haven’t tested whether this is true, I can attest that the blooms really appear as lush and dense as cushions)
For us, A.E. Kundred has flowered well even on younger divisions. Bloom time is mid-late to late and the flowers are fragrant
A.E. Kundred’s fragrant blooms are carried on strong stems. However, flowers are full and large so support is recommended in the landscape.
All bare-root peonies ship Sept-Oct.
